Dear Students and Professors; Deep Foundations Institute of India is officially launching its student's chapter during DFI India 2020 virtual conference on 19-20 November 2020. DFI India initiated enrolling students having interest in geotechnical discipline with free membership as long as they are bonafide students. The students outreach programme "Groundwork" Laying Foundation for the Next Generation Foundation Practitioners, will offer graduate webinar series starting from January 2021. One of the ambitious plans is helping the students to get connected with the foundation industry that will help them in securing internship opportunities in reputed firms. The broad picture of this initiative of DFI of India will be announced on the second day of the virtual conference. As a prelude to the student's outreach programme, a technical competition for the interested students is being announced in this email. We expect large participation by the graduate and research students in the competition by the encouragement from their professors. Please go to the following steps to participate in the competition. 1) If you have not registered for the DFI India Student's outreach programme through GoToWebinar platform, please register here. The registration is free. https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/rt/1097030439670558220 You will be enrolled as DFI student member and will be able to participate in all the programmes by DFI India organised for the students. As a DFI student member, you will have access to a large collection of technical documents related to deep foundations, ground improvement methods, and related topics. 2) After enrolling at the GoToWebinar platform, download the competition material from http://www.dfi-india.org/DFII2020/assets/DFI-India_Student_competitionNOV2020.pdf 3) There are six problems and any FIVE problems shall be attempted to be part of the competition. 4) Up to maximum five students can group together to submit one set of solutions. One group can submit only one set of solutions. One student can be part of only any one group. 5) The solution sets shall be prepared using wide screen PPT, each problem covered in a single sheet (as far as possible). There is no participation fee for this competition. Each participating student will receive a participation certificate. All participating students will automatically become DFI student member with access to several technical reference material. The best two solution sets will be awarded free registration to DFI India 2020 virtual conference on 19-20 November 2020. Merit certificates shall be presented to all the students submitting the best two solution sets. If there are identical solution sets, those may be excluded from the competition. 6) The solutions shall be submitted before end of 15 November 2020 @ activities@dfi-india.org
